Health classes explained

Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard: their definitions and the factors that determine your placement within them.

Insurance carriers differentiate term pricing through rate class. Terminology shifts across insurers, yet the structure follows a standard pattern: Preferred Plus (sometimes called Super Preferred or Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, with additional modifications for high-risk scenarios. Smokers are slotted into a separate tier with steeper pricing.

What underwriters look at

Build and measurements, cholesterol and blood pressure readings, whether immediate family members experienced early heart or cancer events, vehicle and prescription information, job classification and interests, and any nicotine use. Preferred Plus demands mostly excellent scores across the board; Preferred permits some deviation; Standard Plus and Standard accommodate managed issues like controlled blood pressure.

How to use the quote tool

In the health section, describe your condition truthfully: Excellent corresponds to Preferred Plus, Very good aligns with Preferred, Good fits Standard Plus and Average represents Standard. The produced quotes assume this category; the actual designation comes after the insurer's evaluation. When uncertain, pull rates for two categories and examine them side-by-side, letting the underwriting determine the outcome. An inflated health assessment won't improve your final rate—it merely distorts the quoted amount.

Susman Insurance Agency's expertise helps match you with insurers whose underwriting rules align with your specific health situation, frequently making a bigger difference than comparing rate tables alone.
